Singing as my career?

We must admit that once in our life, singing became a part of our dreams. It can be in front of a huge audience, a group or someone who is significant to our lives. Singing is an easier way to express what we truly feel.

I could say that in my seventeen years of existence, I have performed in front of an audience a lot of times already. Today, I feel like sharing these so let’s start?

When I started schooling, it was also the time that I started performing. I guess my confidence was the reason why my first teacher picked me to sing for our linggo ng wika. It wasn’t easy because the whole school will be watching and parents are always invited. Mind you, the song was “Isang Lahi” by Regine Velasquez. According to my parents and my teacher, I did great. I think they said that just to conciliate the four-year-old me.

When I was in grade school, I have some friends enrolled to Yamaha School of Music. I would always watch them whenever I have my free time and I do it with total amazement and awe. It’s funny how they turned out to be a really different people when singing. Since then, I discovered my love for music.

I was in my first year when I joined the Nightingale’s club. It wasn’t actually my choice because I choose to join the Toastmaster’s club. We were only 6 in the club and that’s the reason why we were forced to find a new club. I was so lucky because the adviser of the Nightingale’s club was my teacher and with my charm, he let me join the group.

I had so much happiness during our first meeting. I never thought that once in my life, I would be a choir member.

I soon realized that I am not a good singer. Remembering the time when we were practicing for our presentation to be held at the school’s gym, our club master got mad and asked who sang out of tune. I know that it was me so I started lip syncing.

On the day of our performance, I saw a bunch of people who happened to be my mom’s friend. They were obviously talking about me and they were really proud of me. But to tell you honestly, I was lip syncing that time because I’m too scared of my voice coach and he might just shout at me in front of the crowd. I ended up lip syncing the whole year and it wasn’t the easiest thing to do.

I have more stories to tell when it comes to humiliation while singing but I would like to keep them private so you would still have this “respect” for me. Haha! (I hope.)

On the bright side, in my sophomore year, we had a speech fest competition. I was a brave girl when I proposed to my speech fest partner that we would add some twist with our presentation by singing. Next thing I knew was: our English teacher told us that we were chosen to represent the whole class (with another pair— Tin and Windel if I’m not mistaken.) And yup! We made it to the finals!

So why am I sharing this to you?

I want my experience to be a lesson to everyone who’s reading this. Always remember that confidence is a must. We wouldn’t be able to achieve anything if we would let fear dwell in our hearts. I know it’s not easy to make our imperfections as our talent, but we can. Everything is possible. Make sure to turn our weaknesses to our strengths and our failures to our success. Just always keep the faith and continue dreaming. Our dreams can always be a part of reality when we want to.

Now, turn the music up and fall in love with me.
